Restrain/t

This project brings together texts and images related by their interest in, exploration of, conflict with, and representation of that which restrains. The work collected here considers physical, formal, psychological, emotional, and intellectual restrictions and limitations, confinements and prohibitions, as well as the possibilities and problems of breaking free or being let loose from them. Restrain/t investigates a place of suspension between desire and action, navigates the subtle spaces separating terms and concepts such as “bind” and “hold” or “containment” and “confinement.” The tensions inherent in representations of control are here revealed, illuminated, and challenged.
